Washington — White House staffers arranged a well-deserved surprise party for President Bush today, in honor of the one-year anniversary of the Iraq War. Invited guests arrived at the White House in secret, and shocked the President with cheers of “Happy Anniversary” in the normally quiet and reserved Roosevelt Room.
“Who’s responsible for this, Karl Rove? Yeah? Slim, you’re going to get yours. Now let’s party, baby!” exclaimed the President immediately after being pelted with Silly String and confetti.
The party’s guest list featured several high-profile Republicans and many leaders from nations in the coalition assembled by the President to fight in the Iraq War.
A clown and petting zoo were arranged by Chief of Staff Andrew Card, who later said that he thought President Bush would enjoy some entertainment during the party.
While Presidential Adviser Karl Rove wouldn’t comment on his role as mastermind of the surprise party, White House aides said that they saw National Security Advisor Condoleezza Rice and Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld hanging streamers in preparation for the event.
